The bookmakers have Alberto Contador down as the clear favourite for the 2010 Tour de France…and who could argue? No rider has produced consistently outstanding performances this season so we yet again look to Contador to produce the goods this July. Andy Schleck, who has had a troublesome season so far, will no doubt push Contador in the high mountains of the Pyrenees in the final week of the race.
Lance Armstrong is third favourite amongst the bookies and his good showing in the final stages of the Tour de Suisse recently illustrate that he’s coming into some kind of form for the first time this year. Bradley Wiggins is a bit if a mystery this year and it remains to be seen whether he can repeat his performance of 2009 on a course which many deem to be much more difficult.
Robert Gesink showed well in the high mountains of the Tour de Suisse but his downfall has always been consistency so this year is his real chance to step up and claim his place amongst the current top riders. Kreuziger looks good value for a top 5 finish, especially as Nibali is no linger riding.
