2011 Milan San-Remo Promo
The 2011 edition of Milan-San Remo looks no less entertaining than previous years with bookmakers unsure as to which sprinter will win the race. That’s right, the bookies don’t see a lone rider breaking away to take the win but anticipate that the usual suspects will be there or thereabouts once the descent off the Poggio has been completed.
Phillipe Gilbert, Heinrich Haussler and Thor Hushovd stand out while Mark Cavendish is not far behind in the betting odds. Taking each in turn, Gilbert is in fantastic form having recently won the Strade Bianche and showing great form throughout Tirenno-Adriatico, Haussler was last seen forcing out a few expletives after hitting a wall on a wet descent during Paris-Nice while Thor Hushovd showed during Tirenno-Adriatico that he is very strong on the kind of long stages with fast, short climbs, so synonymous with Milan-San Remo.
Cavendish on the other hand is a complete unknown, unseen on TV after the first few days of Tirenno Adriatico but we know to write him off at our peril. Outside of the obvious sprinters Boonen and Pozzatto are at 33/1 and 34/1 respectively and could be a great each-way bet if they are still in the mix in the final kilometres.
Given his recent climbing form and consistent sprinting ability we are going for Garmin-Cervelo’s Thor Hushovd
