Finally we are here, the 2011 Ronde van Vlaanderen or Tour of Flanders as it’s otherwise known takes place this weekend, starting a week of incredible cycling across the cobbles of Northern Europe. Fabian Cancellara dominated the week last year and the bookmakers are in no doubt that he will once again do the Flanders-Roubaix double.
The betting odds for 2011 Tour of Flanders show Cancellara at much shorter odds than any other rider with the Belgian riders Boonen and Gilbert around the 7.50-9.00 mark. The odds quickly lengthen for other rides from Haussler at 20.00 through to Cavendish at 151.00.
We would not advise placing your money on Cancellara at such short odds – although he may be in fantastic form there are just too many external factors involved in winning a race like Flanders. Look at odds from bookmakers such as Bet365 and PaddyPower who are offering Each-Way odds at 1/4 for places 1,2,3.
We’ll be going for a couple of E/W bets with ‘outsiders’ to place in the top 3. Hushovd has had some terrible luck despite being in good form and should be in the mix come the final kilometres of Flanders. Leukemans did exceptionally well at this point in the season in 2010 and despite not having the top 10 results of last year he has been in good form and knows the parcours very well.
