The bookmakers naturally have Contador as the race favourite with Valverde his closest rival. Cadel Evans will make a good showing and be there at the top of the big climbs but it’s likely he won’t want to extend himself so close to the Tour, a case of fine tuning. The question is whether Contador can temper his enthusiasm for winning or will he blow up a la Paris-Nice earlier in the year.

Velotips does not see Leipheimer winning this race although we see his motivation being high as this race could be the biggest win of his season.

Velotips is tipping Alejandro Valverde as he is likely to want to test his form on the mountainous finishes whereas Cadel Evans will be cautious with the Tour de France his single focus from now on. If Evans gets into any difficulty he will simply not push himself.
